A Calm Experiment In Selling Finished Work

Why this post exists

This post exists to close a small but complete experiment.

I took a finished piece of work that was not selling through its original channel and made it available elsewhere, without changing the work itself.

No relaunch. No repositioning. No narrative upgrade.

Just a sequence of decisions made under ordinary constraints.

This is a record of those decisions.

The situation

Weekend Golfers was already done.

The coaching library was complete, finite, and priced. It had been built carefully and without shortcuts.

It was being sold via JVZoo.

It was not selling.

That absence of sales was the only signal that mattered.

The first judgement

I did not treat the lack of sales as a value problem.

I treated it as a distribution problem.

JVZoo is built for launches, affiliates, and momentum. Weekend Golfers is none of those things.

It is finished work.

So the correct response was not to change the product, but to change where it was available.

Choosing where to sell

eBay and Etsy were chosen for one reason.

They are marketplaces where people already buy standalone instructional material without ceremony.

Buyers arrive intending to purchase something specific. They are not waiting to be persuaded into a programme or an identity.

That made them appropriate homes for finished work.

One product, one process

The product was not adapted for each platform.

Instead, a single fulfilment model was chosen and reused everywhere.

Access to the coaching library is delivered via a physical welcome letter sent by post.

The letter contains instructions for registration and access.

This decision:

  • Kept the listings compliant
  • Reduced ambiguity for buyers
  • Lowered dispute risk
  • Preserved the sense that access is intentional

One product. One explanation. One process.

Pricing decisions

The original price was already set.

On marketplaces, the question was not what the product was worth in theory, but what would realistically clear.

The price was set at £24.99.

On eBay, offers were enabled with a controlled floor to allow price discovery.

On Etsy, pricing was fixed to match buyer behaviour on that platform.

No discounts were added.

Price was treated as a tool, not a statement.

Writing the listings

The listings were written to remove confusion, not to create desire.

Each answered the same questions:

  • What this is
  • What you receive
  • Who it is for
  • Who it is not for
  • How access works

Nothing was promised.

No outcomes were implied.

The goal was clarity, not persuasion.

Postage and scope

Free standard postage was used as the default.

Paid upgrades were offered but not emphasised.

International shipping was excluded.

The product did not benefit from global reach at this stage, and the operational cost was not justified.

Restraint

Once live, both listings were left alone.

Marketplaces need time to understand what a listing is and who it is for. Constant edits interfere with that process.

The experiment was given a fixed observation window.

Judgement was deferred.

What this was really about

This was not about growth.

It was about respecting finished work.

About allowing an asset to exist where people already buy similar things, without bending it into something it is not.

Bills exist. Revenue matters.

But urgency degrades judgement.

The only workable approach was to make calm, limited, reversible decisions.

That is what I did.

Closing

If this works, it becomes background revenue.

If it does not, the work remains intact.

Either outcome is acceptable.

The mistake would have been assuming that a failure of distribution was a failure of value.
