Margin Calculator
Understanding per-listing margin is the foundation of disciplined pricing.
This calculator shows the net profit per sale and the margin percentage after marketplace fees, promoted listing costs, payment processing, VAT on fees (if applicable), returns and the operational costs you pay.
It is intentionally conservative: returns are modelled as a simple percentage; shipping and packaging costs are deducted after fees.
Use the Margin Calculator when deciding listing price, setting promoted listing rates, or evaluating whether an equipment upgrade (printer, scale) makes sense at your typical sale values.
- For transaction-level fee modelling, use the eBay Fees Calculator (UK).
- For inventory-level velocity and capital cycle decisions, use the 2 Month Rule.
Enter realistic inputs, test one variable at a time, and treat the output as an operational decision tool rather than bookkeeping.
Margin Calculator
Calculate the true per-listing margin (%) after fees, VAT, promotion, payment processing and operational costs.
Assumptions and notes
- The tool operates client-side. No data is stored.
- Fees are calculated on the transaction value (sale + shipping charged to buyer) unless the marketplace specifies otherwise.
- Promotion fees are modelled as a percentage of the sale price and only apply when a sale is attributed to the promoted activity.
- Returns are modelled as a simple percentage of sale price reducing expected revenue. This is a conservative simplification.
- VAT toggle models VAT applied to fees. Consult an accountant for individual tax treatment.
- Operational costs (shipping you pay, packaging, cost of goods, other fixed per-sale costs) are subtracted after fees.
