Lesson 14: Website Work
At this point, you should have your domain name and web hosting, and have installed WordPress and created your first install, your first site was created, but it is just a place-holder theme -meaning that it looks basic.
If you haven’t done this part yet, or need some help, please visit The WordPress Collection section on my website which will take you through everything in more detail.
The next step you need is a theme that allows you to customize your website so it looks the way you want it to.
Now, there are 1000s of themes in the world, and if you already know one you can trust and that looks the way you want it to, you can just use that.
But be very sure that you are buying a theme that comes from a reputable company that is going to continue to make updates to the theme . . .
if you buy a theme from a college kid who stops working on his theme when he gets a real job out of college, or you may be looking for another theme next year!
I personally use very robust themes that allows me to customize – and change my site to just about any configuration I want:
My current go to theme is GeneratePress (which is what this site is built on)
I also use Bricks (used in conjunction with Automatic CSS (ACSS) & Frames which help speed up the process)
Again, you don’t have to go with either of these but you do need to choose a theme before you can move on!!!
If you need help with getting a site set up, drop me a message and I’ll be happy to help
